Federation clashes and Beta: ask your questions here!

Badge image
In the article posted today (here: https://www.managerzone.com/?p=news&nid=110716) we have gone through the new clash feature and provided some dates regarding the beta. Please read through that article if you haven’t already.

We are aware that this might seem like a daunting new feature, so we encourage you to ask questions here if things are unclear. Note that we have intentionally left out information regarding the new federation league table and ranking, to avoid dropping too much information at once. In this thread, we would ideally like to discuss the following things:

- How to set your federation first team up to play clashes
- How to play clashes
- And questions regarding the Beta which will be launched next week (at which point we will also provide more detailed information regarding the beta)

Also be aware that we might not be able to answer questions during evenings and weekends, but we will do our best to answer all your questions as quickly as we can.

Will there be a community trophy 🏆 for the winning Federation or will each team receive one❓
Or both options❓

Hey,

It seems that the suggestion has been accepted.

Yes, I was just going to post here but you beat me to it. 😊

It is the same basic idea as was suggested here, but we expanded on it. You can see if a user has played one or two matches, and you can also see if key members have done their extra challenge.

We chose to keep it visible for federation users only, so you cannot see these checkmarks on any other federation than your own. If people see any reason why they should be visible to everyone, give us your arguments.

I just checked and indeed when you access a rival federation the ticks do not appear.

Another suggestion could be that depending on the result, the ticks were green, orange or red. What do you think?

We will have a federation trophy for the federation league. Not sure about individual trophies though, what do you guys think? In that case, I think everyone who is a first team member at the end of the season would get that trophy.

I think it should be a generalized trophy for the Federation. That trophy could appear in the showcase of all the teams that are part of the federation.
Basically because, for example, in our federation there are teams that have not participated in the first team because they compete with Uxx, and it would be unfair if they did not receive that recognition despite not playing. In my opinion, being from a federation implies that everyone is a contributor in one way or another.

Yep, this is my thought as well. I think a lot of people will contribute during a season, not just first team members. And also, the first team might be rotated quite a bit. Some people will leave but would still have contributed. So I feel like it would be difficult to decide (both principally and programatically) who actually should get a trophy.

But the federation should get a trophy for sure. We may need to start thinking about a designated page for federation trophies.

I think that another motivation to participate is that they gave some money per match in the clash., even if it is €7,500 to each team that plays per day. (Only pay 1, not if you play 2 or if the key plays again).

7500*23=€172,500 maximum for the season.

I think it would be an encouragement.

Hey,

I think this suggestion is very good. This can end up encouraging people 100% to participate, since it will have a positive incentive for the economy of your club.

Best regards.

So, we have now played the Beta season halfway and I think most of us got it figured out how this works.

I am the clashleader of a very active and large fed that choosed to start this Beta with a mixed strong/weaker first team set up just because its Beta.

The whole idea of trying to get 16 top teams to sign up was not something I saw problematic from the beginning. After all, its part of the whole idea to try to be active in recruiting.

So far, we have managed to get all teams to chip in to the clashes even as some of them are simply too weak to win challenges. It will be harder and harder as it goes though to keep them motivated as they feel that they have nothing to contribute with in the Federations league.

Im slowly starting to realize where this is going to end up.
There will be one or 2 superfeds of all the stronger nations like Argentina, Sweden, Brasil etc that totally dominate and that will be of zero interest to even try to fight against.

I think you have misjudged the idea of making it interesting for teams to be part of a fed that is not able to challenge those and to take part of the same journey to try to walk their way up in the system as in the leagues for the individual teams. Those two things are not at all the same.

Its already very hard to see what will motivate people and what would be the incentive to actually care about the federationleagues unless you somehow try to even out the odds and put in some restrictions.

My first suggestion would be to cap the number of teams from any first division to 4. The second highest division to 8. The third highest to 12 and the fourth highest to 16.

Of course with adaptions to countries that have lower amount of divisions.

If this is going to be sucessfull it has to involve an interest from a broader range of the community than just the top teams from the largest nations.

I would like to give a general update to those of you following this thread.

First: we are planning to relaunch the beta on TUESDAY of next week, so seven days from today. I will also post a news item about this today. At that point, we will also fill up everyone's Clash Scout credits (up to 10).

We will have one or possibly two updates on Tuesday.

One larger change will be that key members ONLY can override complete challenges. And by that I mean: when an opponent has been challenged twice in the regular way, a key member can step in and override the result. This is to make it easier to understand, and to avoid cases where a key member wins a challenge against an opponent which hasn't been challenged yet, and now someone from your federation cannot play any matches (since it makes no sense to override a victory). This will also be in the news article.

We are also going to remove goal difference as tiebreaker. So: equal points in a clash = draw.

We are having discussions regarding many of the things that you guys have made us aware of in this thread, and there will be more changes coming. You really sparked a lot of ideas and insights. I'll highlight some of the resulting discussions below, and what we are currently planning to do, although I want to stress that it is still under consideration.

  • We need to make sure there is enough prestige (enough to play for) in the lower divisions. This can be done in a number of ways but most likely through rewards and to highlight first team membership more, on various parts of the site.
  • We want to add extra incentive to stay in the same federation and not leave during the season. Possibly by adding rewards/badges/trophies for those who remain first team members for the duration of a season, similar to tours.
  • We are also pondering the possibility of making league groups consist of 12 federations instead of 24, and to speed up seasons (so we would have two fed-seasons during a regular season). So, the SAME amount of clashes, but spread out in a different way. This would give us more bite-sized seasons which are easier to manage/overlook, and more motivation to stay in the same federation for a whole season (you only have to stay for six weeks to get the perks, not twelve). I can't say for sure that this is going to happen, but there seems to be some strong arguments for it.
  • We would also like to offer private message boards.
  • And also add some type of fixtures/result page for clashes, where you can see your clashes. This also helps if you want to scout a federation and look at their previous clashes.
  • A trophy cabinet for federation is also something we are thinking about.

Not sure all of this will be done in time for the first real season. We might also see the need for other higher priorities as the beta season progresses.

On a personal note: I am so grateful for you lot and all of your comments. Honestly. You really have some amazing insights and are forcing us to think outside the box. Hopefully we can deliver the best possible features in the end, which everyone will enjoy.

[IFC] ICE FIGHTERS CLAN (331) --> Only 6 teams
[CLUB] 💢 CLUB MZ (347) --> Only 6 teams

Is very important league with only 12 teams..

My suggest: Option 1

First division: 12 real teams
Second division: 12 real teams
Third division: 8 reals teams + 4 boots.

I support option 1 proposed by masterkike. By separating the federations by categories, you get the best federations to play exciting matches, and the inactive federations end up in the lower categories playing against bots.

Hi. Thanks for this! Amazing job.

What we need to do is assess the situation once the third "mini" beta season starts, because that will give us a rough idea on how many active federations will take part in the first "real" season.

It is important that we do not go live with a division structure which hampers the growth of federation league (for instance by creating league groups that are too large, which will cause league groups half-filled with inactive or bot federations further down in the structure). But at the same time, we need to look to the future, and I think there will be a lot more active federations a year from now, since more and more people will discover them and join. If we end up with a looong division tree, this might feel like an impossible task and might make people think twice about forming new federations, which is also not good. So we need to really think about this carefully, especially in hockey. But just rest assured that we will do this analysis and we'll try to find the best possible structure, in the short and the long term. I think that your thoughts are valid, by the way.

The first real season will start day 1 next season, so October 3. At that point, the new features should no longer be in beta.

We can't say for sure how long the "mini" beta season will last. They are tests, after all, so we will restart them when there is a need for it, but make sure to let you know in advance. My best guestimate for when we will start the third (and final) mini beta season would be around day 60-70 of the current season.

Thanks for answering.
Actually, if the idea of the crews continues to be that 16 teams per federation play in hockey, not many more federations will sign up. We can think optimistic and that instead of 32, there are 40-48... but not many more.

In soccer, if it is true that the ideal would be
TOP- Div1.1-Div1.2-Div1.3-Div2.1-Div2.2..

In hockey even if we were 48 it would be

TOP
DIV1.1
DIV1.2
DiV1.3

As most of the presidents of hockey federations have commented, hopefully it will be different from soccer and it will be

TOP
DIV1
DIV2
DIV3

I think it would be a more competitive system. However, if in the end the idea of the crew is to reduce the participants from 16, to 12, 10, 8 per federation, that would make the federations multiply and with the same system you could have everything.

Apart from what has already been said, we have a question. In the real season in October, how will it be decided which federation competes in the first category and who competes in the lower one? Do you take into account what has been played up to now?

We will not take into account what has been played up til now. However, we may let the final beta season decide (in that case we will inform, of course). We are also discussing whether to fill up the entire league structure (including the top division) from the start, or whether we should start with only the lowest division and let federations get promoted, until (after a couple of season) all divisions will be filled.

I think this is a good suggestion and it is also among the things we have discussed. We should think about how to make first team membership more prominent, for sure.

The thing that worries me a bit is that if we put all the best (most active) federations in an elite league group, the other beta divisions would contain more bots and inactive feds. Obviously this is only a problem during the beta stage, later we will have promotion and relegation which will fix this problem organically, but still it would lead to fewer opportunities to really test the features, for some federations. It also might be difficult from a practical standpoint, since there are many other things we want to do in order to improve the features. We will discuss it internally but I can't promise anything.

I did see the image you posted with the 53-52 score (I think it was) and it looked really exciting. I mean that is what we are hoping every clash will be like, or at least something close to that, once we have been up and running for a couple of seasons.

I think the fairest thing would be the second option not to fill the first categories (TOP and DIV1) and go up. If there are 2 leagues per season, it means that during the next season it will be decided who will compete in the TOP.

There is no mistake.
Only the last match count, so the last match is 0-3.

gracias

a query, in the same clash, it cannot be made that there are, for example, 3 or 4 teams of div top -div-1 div 2.-3 div 4-5-6
since I am seeing that there are federations that are all top and 1 and in one of my federations I have several teams from 4th and below that makes them not want to continue playing because they lose by goals
In case of doubt, I consult and apologize if it was already raised previously
thank you

Only 6 points for a federation win when only one team win gives the federation 4 points? Such a scoring system harms federations that play with more than 16 teams rotating the roster, and promotes those in which only the strongest 16 plays all the time. It's as if in the league the final position was not decided by the number of matches won in the first place, but the goal balance .. Harmful and pointless.

I think similarly, I think that winning the clash is little rewarded. They should still give 12 points for winning, which would be double and would be equivalent to at least 3 games.

I agree wholeheartedly. Right now in our league there are two federations with perfect record (13 wins, 0 defeats) and yet they're behind a federation that has 12 wins and 1 defeat. More selfishly, our federation (10 wins, 3 defeats) is currently behind two federations that not only have a worse record than us (9 wins, 4 defeats), but also lost handily against us when we went up against them.

It's utterly bizarre that in the current system, a team can theoretically win 1 clash 64-0, lose 9 clashes by 1 point (total points 59 points) and yet be ahead of one that won 10 clashes by 1 point (total points 50). It feels like this system doesn't reward consistency in the way a league competition is supposed to.

winning the match by the federation should be the most important, otherwise this competition will not make sense
