In the 7thth minute of the game Wladimir Wasilewski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ponte do Carro's Armindo Maltez was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luxembourg's Karlheinz Ludecke proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to save Luxembourg from getting a goal against them. Adélio Brites sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Loukianos Livas kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Karlheinz Ludecke. That made the score 1-0 in the 15 minute of play. Karlheinz Ludecke stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Loukianos Livas's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Armindo Maltez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wladimir Wasilewski in the 26th minute of play. Luxembourg's Karlheinz Ludecke proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 27th minute of the match, managed to save Luxembourg from getting a goal against them. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Loukianos Livas in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Karlheinz Ludecke prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 37 minutes, Wladimir Wasilewski managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Luxembourg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wladimir Wasilewski was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Klaus Pichler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Armindo Maltez having to interfere. Armindo Maltez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Klaus Pichler in the 39th minute of play. Klaus Pichler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 42 minutes into the match, Luxembourg's Klaus Pichler sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Armindo Maltez narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Ponte do Carro's Alcino Jesus slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Karlheinz Ludecke. That made the score 2-0 after 45 minutes of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Wladimir Wasilewski to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Alcino Jesus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karlheinz Ludecke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adélio Brites during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Wladimir Wasilewski came free with the goalkeeper in the 62nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Armindo Maltez could save by the left post. Karlheinz Ludecke took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alcino Jesus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind Ponte do Carro's goalkeeper Armindo Maltez, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Karlheinz Ludecke showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Loukianos Livas, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Luxembourg's Karlheinz Ludecke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adélio Brites in the 74th minute of play. Wladimir Wasilewskis short, quick shot in the 83rdth minute got Armindo Maltez to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Klaus Pichler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Armindo Maltez having to interfere. Luxembourg's Miguel Sanches was substituted for Wladimir Wasilewski. Armindo Maltez was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Klaus Pichler showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 87 minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Miguel Sanches got free with Armindo Maltez in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jean-Claude Fröhlich made a great header on Luxembourg's corner, it was just that Ponte do Carro's Armindo Maltez managed to reach the ball for a save.
