Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gil de Senna in the 8th minute of play. Marcel Abreu might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Júlio Catarinense. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Marcel Abreu ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when REAL VASCO RIO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfredo Fernandes didn't get a good kick on the ball. REAL VASCO RIO's Júlio Catarinense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcel Abreu in the 11th minute of play. Marcel Abreu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Rui da Costa kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Júlio Catarinense. That made the score 1-0 in the 16 minute of play. After 25 minutes, Victor Aguiar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul and the REAL VASCO RIO players grew even worse after the yellow card. Victor Aguiar hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Júlio Catarinense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rui da Costa in the 30th minute of play. After 32 minutes, Alfredo Fernandes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the REAL VASCO RIO and the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul players grew even worse after the yellow card. 39 minutes into the match, REAL VASCO RIO's goal looked a bit too open when Marcel Abreu came free, but Júlio Catarinense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 44th minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Rui da Costa ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Júlio Catarinense. Júlio Catarinense yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcel Abreu to make the kick off. Fausto Ferraz was a little too slow when Eriberto Sergipano got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 62nd minute. The score was now 2-1. Júlio Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcel Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. The supporters of REAL VASCO RIO booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcel Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Fernandes in the 69th minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rui da Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio Catarinense having to interfere. Fausto Ferraz made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Horácio Pires sent off a good shot on target. Victor Aguiar kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. In the 79th minute, REAL VASCO RIO's Eriberto Sergipano ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fausto Ferraz. Fausto Ferraz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-2. Fausto Ferraz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eriberto Sergipano in the 85th minute of play. 86 minutes into the game, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Victor Aguiar nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Júlio Catarinense made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. After 89 played minutes REAL VASCO RIO got a freekick which was hit by Victor Mazza. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marcel Abreu in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Júlio Catarinense saved REAL VASCO RIO from getting behind.
