The supporters of Vitoria booed when Remo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serginho de Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mazinho de Sousa struck a weak shot in the 3rd minute. Valério Antunes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vitoria. After 9 played minutes Vitoria got a freekick which was hit by Clóvis Catarinense. Conrado Sanches kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Vitoria's zone, Walmyr Britto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bernardinho de Mendonça came out of the goal and Walmyr Britto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 19th match minute, Vitoria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clóvis Catarinense to maneuver through the defense. 26 minutes into the match, Remo's Walmyr Britto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bernardinho de Mendonça narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 30th minute Hugo Leão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardinho de Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 34 minutes into the game, Hugo Leão cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Bernardinho de Mendonça was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Vitoria's Natã Cunha got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Remo getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Tiago Berger hit a great ball. If Natã Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Adilson Melo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Hugo Leão hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Hugo Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vitoria's Bernardinho de Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Claudinho Correia in the 58th minute of play. Adilson Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 63rd minute, Natã Cunha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 65th minute Adilson Melo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valério Antunes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 73rd minute Adilson Melo suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. After 73 minutes, Serginho de Sousa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Remo and the Vitoria players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 76th minute, Luciano Recife hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 79 minutes into the match, Vitoria's goalkeeper Bernardinho de Mendonça had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Walmyr Britto. In the 81st minute, Hugo Leão made a precise shot to the right of Bernardinho de Mendonça. Vitoria's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Remo's Walmyr Britto got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 90 minutes, Hugo Leão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Remo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hugo Leão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vitoria's Bernardinho de Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hugo Leão in the 92nd minute of play. The Remo supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Remo would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
