After 38 minutes, Danny Simons made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. Miami Lightnings's Domingo Kessler tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Jerome Connell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Domingo Kessler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The supporters of Higher Lane FC booed when Miami Lightnings was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position.
