Carlinhos Fernandes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Álvaro Barbosa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. Hermínio da Silva hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. When Thiago Tinoco fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Iguaçu Football Club's protests and gave Thiago Tinoco a yellow card for diving instead. In the 12th minute, Thiago Tinoco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind CR Independente's goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Sousa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 17 minutes into the match, Iguaçu Football Club's Natanael Moreno sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Carlos Alberto Sousa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 18 minutes into the match, CR Independente's goal looked a bit too open when Natanael Moreno came free, but Carlos Alberto Sousa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carlos Alberto Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Natanael Moreno, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. After 35 played minutes CR Independente got a freekick which was hit by Aírton Nóbrega. Aírton Nóbrega charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Iguaçu Football Club reached it. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind Iguaçu Football Club's goalkeeper Álvaro Barbosa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gil Melo during the 74th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Iguaçu Football Club getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Gil Melo hit a great ball. Enéas Tróia kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hermínio da Silva in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Álvaro Barbosa saved Iguaçu Football Club from getting behind. In the 83rd match minute, CR Independente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aírton Nóbrega to maneuver through the defense. If José Augusto Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thiago Tinoco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. CR Independente's Aírton Nóbrega got his second yellow card of the match in the 92nd minute. The referee ordered Aírton Nóbrega off the ground. Aírton Nóbrega hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. After 94 played minutes, Iguaçu Football Club's Sílvio Luiz Guedes shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Sousa came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line.
