Adelino Moreira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Alberto Sousa having to interfere. Adelino Moreira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlos Alberto Sousa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in CR Independente's zone, Adelino Moreira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Alberto Sousa came out of the goal and Adelino Moreira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to CR Independente getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Carlinhos Fernandes hit a great ball. If Frédson Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Adelino Moreira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlos Alberto Sousa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. After the first half Tupi F.C. JF were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

CR Independente's Carlos Alberto Sousa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save CR Independente from getting a goal against them. Adelino Moreiras short, quick shot in the 57thth minute got Carlos Alberto Sousa to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 60th minute Hermínio da Silva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Simão Moreno saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 62nd minute of the match, Frédson Mendes tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Carlos Alberto Sousa saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. CR Independente's Carlos Alberto Sousa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frédson Mendes in the 64th minute of play. Arlindo Valadares hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Simão Moreno stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hermínio da Silva's shot from short distance in the 75th minute. CR Independente's Carlos Alberto Sousa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frédson Mendes in the 79th minute of play. With 81 minutes on the clock, Teodoro Castro commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 80 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle.
