Kiko Souto charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kiko Souto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 18th minute, one of Itonia AD:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Itonia AD. In the 21st minute there was a penalty for E.C Santo André. Eriberto Aparecido stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Gino Berger. 0-3. If Eriberto Aparecido had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gino Berger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leandro Simão, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. When Adhemar Severo fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Itonia AD's protests and gave Adhemar Severo a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Itonia AD getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Adhemar Severo hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Giovanni de Amorim's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gino Berger was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. Itonia AD's Gino Berger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Giovanni de Amorim in the 39th minute of play. If Giovanni de Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Paiva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Donato Lopes in the 46th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Virgílio Porto hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. If Giovanni de Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luís Paulo Valladares kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Itonia AD's zone, Leandro Simão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gino Berger came out of the goal and Leandro Simão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of E.C Santo André booed when Itonia AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Baltazar de Alcântara didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diamantino Silva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gino Berger read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. When Giovanni de Amorim came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the E.C Santo André fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Giovanni de Amorim couldn't finish the play. With his leg Gino Berger managed to avoid a goal in the 76thth minute, when E.C Santo André's Giovanni de Amorim fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Itonia AD's Gino Berger proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Itonia AD from getting a goal against them. 85 minutes into the match, E.C Santo André's Leandro Simão sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gino Berger narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Giovanni de Amorim struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Gino Berger didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for E.C Santo André. 89 minutes into the match, Itonia AD's goal looked a bit too open when Eriberto Aparecido came free, but Gino Berger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 91 minutes, Leandro Simão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. E.C Santo André's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leandro Simão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Carlos Augusto Maciel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gino Berger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 96th minute, Virgílio Porto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
