The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Heliópolis FC booed when Castanarana SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudinei Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gualter do Valle was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 3rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 4th match minute, Heliópolis FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manuel Paraense to maneuver through the defense. In the 5th minute the ball was on its way in behind Heliópolis FC's goalkeeper Carlos Mazza, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 7th minute, Renato Camargo fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Claudinei Brito took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorian Xavier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 14th minute Murillo da Silveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Mazza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute, Waldemar Pitta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 22 minutes, Gualter do Valle put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Claudinei Brito. After a rather tough play, Castanarana SC's Rodriguinho Palmeira got a free kick in the 27th minute. In the 28th minute, Murillo da Silveira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Carlos Mazza was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Gualter do Valle took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Claudinei Brito to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, Castanarana SC's Claudinei Brito got control of the ball when Dorian Xavier tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Heliópolis FC's Manuel Paraense got a free kick in the 38th minute. Claudinei Carvalho kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Heliópolis FC's Gualter do Valle shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 43rd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Claudinei Brito but with some difficulty. After a defensive mix-up in Castanarana SC's zone, Renato Camargo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Claudinei Brito came out of the goal and Renato Camargo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gualter do Valle stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Heliópolis FC's Gerson Pinho quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Alberto Quadros, made in the 52nd minute of the game. After some careless play in the Castanarana SC defense, Gualter do Valle kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Claudinei Brito. The Castanarana SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Claudinei Brito should have stopped the shot. Gualter do Valle struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Claudinei Brito didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Heliópolis FC. Renato Camargo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dorian Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Renato Camargo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Castanarana SC's Claudinei Brito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Renato Camargo in the 67th minute of play. Heliópolis FC's Carlos Mazza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Heliópolis FC from getting a goal against them. In the 74th minute Renato Camargo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudinei Brito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, Castanarana SC's goal looked a bit too open when Dorian Xavier came free, but Claudinei Brito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Castanarana SC's Claudinei Brito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorian Xavier in the 82nd minute of play. Carlos Mazza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tony Amorim in the 87th minute of the match. 94 minutes into the match, Heliópolis FC's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo Freitas came free, but Carlos Mazza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Castanarana SC getting a freekick after 97 minutes play. Rodriguinho Palmeira hit a great ball. There was no doubt that Heliópolis FC were the better team. Heliópolis FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
