But to his dismay, Cícero Antunes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cícero Antunes in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mané de Andrade saved Catole from getting behind. Mané de Andrade showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cícero Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Eusébio Baiano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Gernando Proença tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mané de Andrade took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cícero Antunes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Renan Neto took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mané de Andrade. Catole's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Eusébio Baiano made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Catole's zone, Róbson de Senna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mané de Andrade came out of the goal and Róbson de Senna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Cícero Antunes kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Mané de Andrade. That made the score 0-3 in the 54 minute of play.
