All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jakob Heupel was the one to do the kick off. Anjo Willmann hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Ekkehard Jarchow managed to get in a good position for a shot. Eisern Union's supporters rose to their feet, but Ekkehard Jarchow was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Karsten Bastian breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Norbert Rehm got free with Adil Bernstein in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
