Daan Vos took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Daan Vos got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Tihamér Rózsa quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Tihamér Rózsa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Etienne Van Achteren in the 9th minute of the match. In the 9th minute, Etienne Van Achteren left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Belgium fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. The supporters of U21 Hungary booed when U21 Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Etienne Van Achteren didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, U21 Belgium's Dida Gentenaar got control of the ball when Róbert Benkó tried to sneak it across the goal line. U21 Hungary's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ferenc Szántó in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 24 minutes into the match, U21 Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Etienne Van Achteren came free, but Tihamér Rózsa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mickael Goebelens charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mickael Goebelens the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Róbert Benkó could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Dida Gentenaar made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Etienne Van Achteren in the 36th minute of play forced U21 Hungary's goalkeeper Tihamér Rózsa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Ferenc Szántó fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Hungary's protests and gave Ferenc Szántó a yellow card for diving instead. In the 37th minute, Ferenc Szántó hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of U21 Hungary booed when U21 Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronny Cromefeldt didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Belgium's Dida Gentenaar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Róbert Benkó in the 41st minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Dida Gentenaar had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zoltán Varga. U21 Hungary's Tihamér Rózsa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Etienne Van Achteren in the 47th minute of play. After the first half U21 Belgium were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

U21 Belgium's Abel Van Clijnebreugel was substituted for Etienne Van Achteren. U21 Hungary's Tihamér Rózsa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abel Van Clijnebreugel in the 53rd minute of play. When Abel Van Clijnebreugel came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the U21 Belgium fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Abel Van Clijnebreugel couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the U21 Belgium defense, Róbert Benkó kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dida Gentenaar. The U21 Belgium fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dida Gentenaar should have stopped the shot. Tihamér Rózsa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Abel Van Clijnebreugel in the 64th minute. Tihamér Rózsa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abel Van Clijnebreugel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Hungary made a substitution. Attila Pálosi replaced Zoltán Varga. U21 Hungary's Tibor Berkes was substituted for Róbert Benkó. With an all-out effort, U21 Belgium's Tihamér Rózsa threw himself towards the right post 71 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Abel Van Clijnebreugel, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 83 minutes into the match, U21 Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Tibor Berkes came free, but Dida Gentenaar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Balu De Hond hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Tibor Berkes scored 3-2 in the 93rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dida Gentenaar, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. U21 Belgium's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
