In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Iceland's goalkeeper Eldór Hreiðarsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 11th match minute, U21 Hungary was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zoltán Varga to maneuver through the defense. U21 Hungary's Ferenc Szántó quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Bersi Aðalsteinsson, made in the 13th minute of the game. Eldór Hreiðarsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Róbert Benkó, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Róbert Benkó sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Eldór Hreiðarsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Róbert Benkó in the 46th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

If Róbert Benkó had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. U21 Iceland's Eldór Hreiðarsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Róbert Benkó in the 57th minute of play.
