Terry Venables cup
By heddo - 16-01-2024 13:50
Hi , I have happily joined the free cups in honour of recently passed away football legends, from Germany and Brazil, and think it is a great idea, I am just wondering if Terry Venables deserves to have a free cup in his honour , I certainly would like to see it for Tezza ...

Since nobody dares to write, I'll be the one to make a fool of myself and ask what most of us were thinking - who is that?

He's well known in England, was the manager of England and also managed Barcelona for 3 or 4 years back in the late 80s, also Tottenham....
Were we draw the line of who deserves a free cup in his honor and who doesn't I don't know.

England is to small an active nation in this game to be warranted a "Free Cup" for such a legend in the game it's better to reward the more active nations from a business point a view. Sad but true.

Well the Zagallo cup did open a can of worms, while Zagallo is well known in South America, Terry Venables is equally known in Europe.... so if you give a cup to honour one, you should give a cup to honour the other.

Well, with regards to where you could draw the line, the other two were world cup winners and El Tel was not, so maybe he did not make as much of an impact on the world stage, so OK , what about Sir Bobby Charlton then, and dont tell me you have never heard of him..

Well yes, now that you mention it I'm kind of surprised they didn't do a cup for Bobby Charlton, he's as relevant for football history as Beckenbauer for sure, no idea how they decide who merits a cup and who doesn't to be honest, but a cup for Bobby Charlton seems like an important omission.

Agreed . Sir Bobby deserved one for what he did for Man Utd and England , with the tragedy of Munich too and coming back from that .. proper legend . One of England’s greats and a world icon . It doesn’t matter about the size of the country in managerzone work honouring the legends . Terry Venables not in that bracket
