Any examples of recent top players with 7SP?
I keep experimenting with it (annoying maxings) and cannot look beyond it being a deal breaker for either a forward or defender.

I was in this same struggle as you guys for a looooong time. Always searching for 9 or 10 speed.
Now I think it is all about the right balance in your team, and even more what kind of other skills this 7 speed player has.
I have 1 7SP player in my team who is playing each game and I'm very happy with him.

It all depends on what tactic you use, who is next (or behind) to the slow players.
I think slow players can work in any tactic in midfield. In defense, I would only use them as a center back playing against a wing tactic. In offense, I would use them as a good header in a wing tactic, or behind your striker if he has decent passing/PI.
I have 4 players who usually play, that have 7 or 6 speed. (mostly because of a lack of better players) If you want to use these slow players, I would recommend you maximize their main skill and PI.

Speed is the most overrated skill in the game that managers put way too much emphasis on. With the dominance of wing tactics now, strikers and even midfielders in a wing tactic can have 7 speed (I don’t think I’d have less though)
Defenders I’d never have 7 speed though. Too much of a liability

I was genuinely going to answer this question with why are your wasting training time on Set Plays 🤣🤦🏼♂️

I prefer 8+ speed at a minimum but 7 speed for either strikers in a wing tactic or a CM with 10 stamina and high PI imo.

This -legendary- team (https://www.managerzone.com/?p=players&tid=169946) proved that you can use players with less than 8 speed. This manager uses a lot of them in his squad. His players are all visible.
More is always better. I guess 9-10 speed players are just more expensive because they'll have decent speed stats even after deterioration.
