Chile is among two great forces of nature: the Pacific Ocean to the west and east the Cordillera de Los Andes with peaks of high altitude. The country is located southwest of South America and borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast and Argentina to the east. Chile is the seventh South American country by size with a land area of 756,096 km2.
On the map, Chile looks like a narrow strip of land and long, with more than 4000 kms long and an average width of 177 km. In the north dominate the highlands and deserts among which highlights the Atacama, the driest in the world. In the central area, the two dominant mountain ranges in Chilean geography are, the Cordillera de la Costa and the Andes, leading to a series of valleys crossed by torrential rivers and great preponderance of farmland. Under the latitude 38° south to 41° begins south of Chile, land area with large lakes, evergreen forests and snow-capped volcanoes. Patagonia (on the parallel 41° south), meanwhile, has a territory that combines hundreds of islands with mainland cut by fjords, rivers and large glaciers. The region has important inter-oceanic steps as the Strait of Magellan, Beagle river and the Drake Passage.
Chile, due to its extensive latitude, has a number of climates differ. This is explained by the geographical position of Chile with respect to areas of high pressure, the presence of the polar front and the influence of the sea, ie influence the Chilean climate factors latitude, altitude and topography of the country.
The chileans of the XXI century are the result of the fusion of the Spanish conquest with the native peoples who were historically in the mainland. 93.4 % of the population is mixed between indians and europeans, while 6.6%
of native peoples member states .
Distributed mainly in the central region -Santiago, Concepción, Temuco and Valparaíso -Viña del Mar -the main cities of Chile. The habitants work mainly in the production of raw materials in areas such as mining, agriculture, agribusiness and fisheries.
Basically, as a little comment, the Chilean people are friendly, open to foreign visitors, despite only 8 % of them speak English with fluency. Our roots and identity to the Chilean is the figure of the "huaso", synonymous with the local and little farmer that is characteristic for their sympathy. The chilean is characterized too by the way they speak Spanish quickly and saying little or nothing the final letters, such as " s " including a series of idioms and invented words that always renews and include a heavy dose of humor and mischief. The traveler can get a bit lost with this way of speaking, but the national people are happy to let you know and understand their meaning and use.
