The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcel Abreu got free with Amauri Prestes in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Samuca Figueiredo hit a great ball. In the 14th minute, Luís Guilherme Correia left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Fausto Ferraz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernani Massa in the 20th minute of play. After 21 minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was José Paulo Senna who took care of the corner kick. After 23 minutes of play, ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽'s Ismael Coelho made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fausto Ferraz was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽ booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ramiro de Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 29 minutes, José Paulo Senna managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽'s supporters crossed their fingers, but José Paulo Senna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 32nd match minute, ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ismael Coelho to maneuver through the defense. Amauri Prestes came out of the goal in the 33rd minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Marcel Abreu. But to his dismay, Marcel Abreu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Fausto Ferraz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernani Massa in the 37th minute of play. ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽'s Amauri Prestes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcel Abreu in the 44th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hernani Massa to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Luís Guilherme Correia made a precise shot to the right of Fausto Ferraz. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. José Paulo Senna hit a great ball. Amauri Prestes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcel Abreu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 96thth minute of the game Marcel Abreu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but ⚽ VILA REAL F.ᑕ. MOC ⚽'s Amauri Prestes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
