José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benjamin Brereton in the 3rd minute of play. Marcelinho Quadros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jailson Capixaba, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. 6 minutes into the match, A. A. SAQUAREMA's goalkeeper Marcelinho Quadros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Serginho Azevedo. Serginho Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Marcelinho Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A sloppy throw-in by Kaká Vinhas in the 12th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Botafogo MZRJ's Juvenal Camargo. Gilmar Couto received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Marcelinho Quadros came out and tried to block the shot, but Gilmar Couto slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 15th minute. In the 21st minute, Botafogo MZRJ's Gilmar Couto ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Marcelinho Quadros. Marcelinho Quadros yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Dedé Salles took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised José Vítor Netto. José Vítor Netto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. José Vítor Netto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Waldir Fernandez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Botafogo MZRJ's José Vítor Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benjamin Brereton in the 31st minute of play. Botafogo MZRJ's attentive Juvenal Camargo managed to snatch the ball when Kaká Vinhas made a throw-in in the 33rd minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in A. A. SAQUAREMA's zone, Jailson Capixaba stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelinho Quadros came out of the goal and Jailson Capixaba tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gilmar Couto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Marcelinho Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If André Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdomiro Sabóia in the 40th minute of play. Dedé Salles kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. A sloppy throw-in by Arne Svensson in the 44th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Botafogo MZRJ's Juvenal Camargo. If Jailson Capixaba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dedé Salles in the 47th minute of play. After 47 played minutes A. A. SAQUAREMA got a freekick which was hit by Valdo Dracena. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gilmar Couto to strike the kick off in the second half. After 54 played minutes Botafogo MZRJ got a freekick which was hit by Serginho Azevedo. Marcelinho Quadros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Álvaro Melo in the 61st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jailson Capixaba in the 71st minute of play forced A. A. SAQUAREMA's goalkeeper Marcelinho Quadros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Botafogo MZRJ's José Vítor Netto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Botafogo MZRJ from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilmar Couto in the 80th minute of play forced A. A. SAQUAREMA's goalkeeper Marcelinho Quadros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 82nd minute, Gilmar Couto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcelinho Quadros was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. Botafogo MZRJ's Isaltino Gomes was substituted for Gilvan Falcão. Botafogo MZRJ's attentive Juvenal Camargo managed to snatch the ball when Valdo Dracena made a throw-in in the 91st minute of the game. José Vítor Netto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dedé Salles, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Jailson Capixaba struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Marcelinho Quadros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Botafogo MZRJ. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Botafogo MZRJ fans cheered their team off the field, for while A. A. SAQUAREMA had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
