The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th minute Bruno Lenzi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Ferraz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 11th minute, Bruno Lenzi left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FALCÕES VERDES fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. When Agnaldo Lara came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the FALCÕES VERDES fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agnaldo Lara couldn't finish the play. After 15 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Rui da Costa. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adelino Sampaio in the 18th minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th minute Agnaldo Lara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Ferraz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 26th minute, Agnaldo Lara ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fausto Ferraz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 28th minute, Agnaldo Lara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's zone, Nelsinho Ferreira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fausto Ferraz came out of the goal and Nelsinho Ferreira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 32nd match minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rui da Costa to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Victor Aguiar got a free kick in the 36th minute. After 43 minutes of play, FALCÕES VERDES's Bruno Lenzi made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fausto Ferraz was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 46 minutes, Rui da Costa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul and the FALCÕES VERDES players grew even worse after the yellow card. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bruno Lenzi to make the kick off. Fausto Ferraz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agnaldo Lara in the 54th minute of play. With a little luck, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz got control of the ball when Bruno Lenzi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luizão Prata charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luizão Prata the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Fausto Ferraz made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Bruno Lenzi sent off a good shot on target. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bruno Lenzi in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fausto Ferraz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 71 minutes had been played when some careless play by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Oswaldo Recife was slow to take the kick. During this time FALCÕES VERDES's players had a chance to rest. A very nice done corner allowed Adelino Sampaio to score against Fausto Ferraz in S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goal. 1-4 after 71 minutes. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when FALCÕES VERDES was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubens de Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 78th minute, Dagoberto Esteves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 82 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bruno Lenzi. After 91 minutes, Adelino Sampaio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FALCÕES VERDES and the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul players grew even worse after the yellow card. Adelino Sampaio hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. Juan dos Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcel Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. The FALCÕES VERDES supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing FALCÕES VERDES would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
