Caxias do Sul's goal looked a bit too open when Chicão de Brito came free, but Fausto Ferraz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 5thth minute of the game Anselmo Sampaio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 11th minute, Anselmo Sampaio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ruy Arce made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Rui da Costa sent off a good shot on target. In the 19th minute Anselmo Sampaio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Ferraz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 21 minutes into the game, Fellipe Moreira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mundial EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave S.E.R. Caxias do Sul the free kick. In the 20th minute, one of Mundial EC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Mundial EC. In the 25th minute, Tião Favoretto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Mundial EC's zone, Rui da Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ruy Arce came out of the goal and Rui da Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fausto Ferraz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Luís Saldanha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Mundial EC booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Aguiar didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 45th minute, Chicão de Brito left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mundial EC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcel Abreu to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dalmo Leite during the 51st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ruy Arce showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcel Abreu in the 52nd minute of the match. Carlos Alberto Magalhães made a great header on S.E.R. Ruy Arce was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Rui da Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruy Arce having to interfere. Mundial EC's Ruy Arce played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rui da Costa in the 73rd minute of play. 74 minutes into the match, Mundial EC's goal looked a bit too open when Marcel Abreu came free, but Ruy Arce reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Mundial EC's Pedro Luís Saldanha got a free kick in the 75th minute. Dagoberto Esteves took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 78th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ruy Arce. Mundial EC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Anselmo Sampaio took the ball and in the 79 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fausto Ferraz. Fausto Ferraz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Luís Saldanha in the 83rd minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Kauã Vander got a free kick in the 93rd minute.
