Miguel Toledo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. José Paulo Silva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Jorginho Meira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 11 minutes, the score became 1-1 when José Paulo Silva sped through Espinilho's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jorginho Meira. After 16 minutes, Breno Severo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Espinilho and the Vila Isabel F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 16th minute, Breno Severo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, José Paulo Silva managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vila Isabel F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but José Paulo Silva was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorginho Meira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Ronaldinho Gaspar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vila Isabel F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Ronaldinho Gaspar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorginho Meira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. José Paulo Silva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Jorginho Meira made a huge save. After some careless play in the Vila Isabel F.C. defense, Reynaldo de Queirós kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Miguel Toledo. The Vila Isabel F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Miguel Toledo should have stopped the shot. Diego Linares hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. In the 33rd minute Vila Isabel F.C. were awarded a corner. Dorian Medeiros went to the cornerflag to take it. Vila Isabel F.C.'s Dorian Medeiros was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jorginho Meira in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. José Paulo Silva who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 35thth minute tested the skills of Jorginho Meira when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Espinilho's zone, José Paulo Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorginho Meira came out of the goal and José Paulo Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Miguel Toledo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gualter Cosme in the 43rd minute of play. Reynaldo de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Miguel Toledo having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Vila Isabel F.C.'s Miguel Toledo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gualter Cosme in the 52nd minute of play. Espinilho's Jefferson Carvalho got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Reynaldo de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ronaldinho Gaspar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Miguel Toledo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gualter Cosme went, in the 60th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. After 68th play minutes José Paulo Silva shot 3-3, a short shot which went by Jorginho Meira and just under the crossbar into goal. A collision led to Espinilho getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Breno Severo hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, José Paulo Silva put it in 4-3 from a short distance just to the right of Jorginho Meira. José Paulo Silva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jorginho Meira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. In the 86th minute, José Paulo Silva ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jorginho Meira was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-3. 95 minutes into the game, Edu Faustino was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vila Isabel F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Espinilho the free kick. In the 95th minute, Edu Faustino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 96 minutes, Reynaldo de Queirós managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Espinilho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Reynaldo de Queirós was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
