Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Rubinho Rossi made the kick off and thus started the match. In the 6th match minute, Quatipuru FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chico Arantes to maneuver through the defense. 9 minutes into the match, Maringá's goalkeeper José Carlos Arruda had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kléber Corrêa. Abel de Almeida took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gonçalo Romero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Osmar da Cunha charged in rather forcefully in the 14th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Osmar da Cunha the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Quatipuru FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Osmar da Cunha hit a great ball. In the 15th minute, Gonçalo Romero ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Abel de Almeida was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Pedrinho Diniz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Abel de Almeida tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kléber Corrêa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but José Carlos Arruda made a huge save. José Carlos Arruda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubinho Rossi in the 33rd minute of play. In the 34th minute Kléber Corrêa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Carlos Arruda saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Maringá's goalkeeper José Carlos Arruda had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kléber Corrêa. Maringá's José Carlos Arruda played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubinho Rossi in the 40th minute of play. Wágner Leite fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Carlos Arruda having to interfere. Edson Cavalcante shot the penalty kick right outside the post.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pedrinho Diniz was the one to do the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Maringá's Gonçalo Romero slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Abel de Almeida. That made the score 0-2 after 54 minutes of play. José Carlos Arruda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wágner Leite in the 58th minute of play. In the 61st match minute, Quatipuru FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Válter Furtado to maneuver through the defense. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind Quatipuru FC's goalkeeper Abel de Almeida, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some careless play in the Maringá defense, Kléber Corrêa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of José Carlos Arruda. The Maringá fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that José Carlos Arruda should have stopped the shot. After 68 played minutes Quatipuru FC got a freekick which was hit by Kléber Corrêa. If Pedrinho Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Carlos Arruda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fabinho Massa in the 81st minute of play. Gonçalo Romero struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Abel de Almeida didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Maringá. Fabinho Massa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. José Carlos Arruda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Caio Quaresma in the 89th minute of play forced Quatipuru FC's goalkeeper Abel de Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kléber Corrêa might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over José Carlos Arruda. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kléber Corrêa ran back to his position shaking his head. Kléber Corrêa hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. If Pedrinho Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 96 minutes into the match, Quatipuru FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gonçalo Romero came free, but Abel de Almeida reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 99th minute, Luisinho Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maringá's supporters rose to their feet, but Luisinho Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Abel de Almeida breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Maringá supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Maringá would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
