Abel de Queiroz might have been able to make a better finish in the 15th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ademar Fontes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Abel de Queiroz ran back to his position shaking his head. Edu Carvalho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcinho Carvalho in the 19th minute of the match. Diguinho Fernandez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 23rd minute, Wilian Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcel Carioca in the 26thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ademar Fontes, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After having played for 28 minutes, Juan de Senna managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. São Paulo FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Juan de Senna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Edu Carvalho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diguinho Fernandez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Marcinho Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to São Paulo FC getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Diguinho Fernandez hit a great ball. When Marcel Carioca came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Crespo Esporte Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcel Carioca couldn't finish the play. Edu Carvalho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diguinho Fernandez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Edu Carvalho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 81st minute, Angelo Negri got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot by Rodriguinho de Castro from long distance, 86 minutes into the match, got Edu Carvalho's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. São Paulo FC's Marcinho Carvalho got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
