Independente Brasil's Ramiro do Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Paulo Zonta in the 5th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Recife Futebol Club's zone, Laerte Marques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonardo Carneiro came out of the goal and Laerte Marques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. José Maria Secco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Ramiro do Nascimento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute of the match, Nildo Silva tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Leonardo Carneiro saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos de Queiroz in the 16th minute of play forced Independente Brasil's goalkeeper Ramiro do Nascimento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Independente Brasil's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Paulo Zonta came free, but Ramiro do Nascimento reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19th match minute, Independente Brasil was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tostão Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. In the 21st minute Tostão Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonardo Carneiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Recife Futebol Club's defense didn't have a chance, in the 27th minute, when Tostão Montenegro scored to the left of an out of position Leonardo Carneiro, making the score, 1-0. If Nildo Silva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute José Maria Secco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramiro do Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ramiro do Nascimento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Maria Secco in the 35th minute of the match. When José Maria Secco came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Recife Futebol Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Maria Secco couldn't finish the play. Ramiro do Nascimento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Maria Secco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sandrinho Esteves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramiro do Nascimento having to interfere. When Recife Futebol Club's Raimundo Salgado in the 46th minute got a chance for a shot 46th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Independente Brasil's goalie prevented a goal. When the match clock showed 46 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Raimundo Salgado sped through Independente Brasil's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ramiro do Nascimento.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pedro Paulo Zonta during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Independente Brasil booed when Recife Futebol Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Paulo Zonta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ramiro do Nascimento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos de Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sandrinho Esteves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ramiro do Nascimento having to make a save. Tostão Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonardo Carneiro having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 86 minutes, Ramiro do Nascimento successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. If Carlos de Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Maria Secco took the ball and in the 93 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ramiro do Nascimento. Ramiro do Nascimento dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
