Clemente Galvão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gonçalo Fernandez during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Gonçalo Fernandez kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Independente Brasil's Ramiro do Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clemente Galvão in the 31st minute of play. A collision led to Lokomotiva F.C. getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Orlando Siqueira hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romário Salgado in the 38th minute of play forced Independente Brasil's goalkeeper Ramiro do Nascimento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Independente Brasil's Ramiro do Nascimento proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Independente Brasil from getting a goal against them. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The supporters of Lokomotiva F.C. booed when Independente Brasil was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Willian Britto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nildo Silva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Natã Abraão having to interfere. Ramiro do Nascimento made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Romário Salgado in the 73rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Independente Brasil's zone, Clemente Galvão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ramiro do Nascimento came out of the goal and Clemente Galvão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ramiro do Nascimento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romário Salgado in the 77th minute of the match. After 95 played minutes Lokomotiva F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Teodoro Saraiva. The Independente Brasil supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Independente Brasil would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
