Strapping Young Lads's Ian Mawson got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Ian Mawson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 10 minutes, Kurt Fenton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ellul FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kurt Fenton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Ellul FC booed when Strapping Young Lads was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pierre Mellon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bobby Lambley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kurt Fenton, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Strapping Young Lads's zone, Kurt Fenton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bobby Lambley came out of the goal and Kurt Fenton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pierre Mellon during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 17th minute of the match Dale Walker sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bobby Lambley skillfully saved the ball. The supporters of Ellul FC booed when Strapping Young Lads was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trevor Forrester didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kurt Fenton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Strapping Young Lads's zone, Hugh Blunt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bobby Lambley came out of the goal and Hugh Blunt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zack Haywood could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Owen Garforth made a huge save. If Hugh Blunt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Kurt Fenton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bobby Lambley was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. In the 35th minute of the match Dale Walker shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bobby Lambley showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Hugh Blunt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bobby Lambley having to interfere. Kurt Fenton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bobby Lambley having to interfere. Hugh Blunt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Bobby Lambley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hugh Blunt recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bobby Lambley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugh Blunt, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Zack Haywood struck a weak shot in the 50th minute. Owen Garforth didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Strapping Young Lads.

Bobby Lambley didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kurt Fenton went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After having played for 61 minutes, Zack Haywood managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Strapping Young Lads's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zack Haywood was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 62nd minute, James Pascoe got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 65 minutes into the match, Ellul FC's goal looked a bit too open when Zack Haywood came free, but Owen Garforth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Strapping Young Lads's Kristopher Floyd got a free kick in the 68th minute. Bobby Lambley made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Hugh Blunt sent off a good shot on target. Kurt Fenton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bobby Lambley having to interfere. In the 72nd match minute, Strapping Young Lads was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by James Pascoe to maneuver through the defense. Bobby Lambley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kurt Fenton in the 75th minute of play. Bobby Lambley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kurt Fenton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice moves Hugh Blunt could shoot a difficult shot in the 84th minute, which Bobby Lambley however easily saved by the left post. Kurt Fenton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Bobby Lambley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kurt Fenton in the 96thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Bobby Lambley, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ian Mawson's late challenge caught a Ellul FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ian Mawson helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Strapping Young Lads getting a freekick after 101 minutes play. Ian Mawson hit a great ball. A hard shot by Dale Walker from long distance, 102 minutes into the match, got Bobby Lambley's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Ellul FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
