Felice Granati showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ferruccio Abbagnale, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Adriano Riccitelli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felice Granati having to interfere. Felice Granati stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alfonso Palmucci's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. In the 10th minute, Ernesto Placidi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Felice Granati was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Ferruccio Abbagnale kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. 19 minutes into the match, Carpiano's goal looked a bit too open when Alfonso Palmucci came free, but Felice Granati reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carpiano's Felice Granati played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfonso Palmucci in the 22nd minute of play. Ernesto Placidi took the ball and in the 27 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Felice Granati. Felice Granati dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Alfonso Palmucci received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Felice Granati tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 34th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cassanese's goalkeeper Alfredo Ottaviani, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 36 minutes, Donato Donadoni mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Carpiano and the Cassanese players grew even worse after the yellow card. 40 minutes into the match, Carpiano's goal looked a bit too open when Ernesto Placidi came free, but Felice Granati reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 44 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Carpiano! Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alfonso Palmucci was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Carpiano getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Amos Di Lello hit a great ball. Ernesto Placidi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cassanese's Ernesto Placidi was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 58th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. When Ernesto Placidi came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Cassanese fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Placidi couldn't finish the play. Cassanese's Alfonso Palmucci got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 68th minute, Armin Petruzzi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ciro Di Loreto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Cassanese's zone, Amos Di Lello stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Ottaviani came out of the goal and Amos Di Lello tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 79 minutes, Donato Donadoni managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Carpiano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Donato Donadoni was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Donato Donadoni came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Carpiano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Donato Donadoni couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfonso Palmucci in the 83rd minute of play forced Carpiano's goalkeeper Felice Granati to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carpiano's Felice Granati played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfonso Palmucci in the 86th minute of play. 91 minutes into the game, Amos Di Nino was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cassanese's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carpiano the free kick. Amos Di Nino hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Felice Granati took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfonso Palmucci, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Cassanese supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Cassanese would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
