The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Ghirolt's goal looked a bit too open when Marius Surdu came free, but Sever Călinescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 4 minutes into the match, Riiosa's Ilie Pop sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sever Călinescu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Marius Surdu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ilie Pop could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 7th minute of the match, but Sever Călinescu made a huge save. Ghirolt's defense didn't have a chance, in the 16th minute, when Marius Surdu scored to the left of an out of position Sever Călinescu, making the score, 1-0. In the 23rd minute, Ioan Trandafir ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nicu Isvoreanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. If Marius Surdu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marius Surdu in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sever Călinescu saved Ghirolt from getting behind. Sever Călinescu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ilie Pop in the 35th minute. Marius Surdu struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Sever Călinescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Riiosa. Marius Surdu was extremely unlucky when he, in the 39th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marius Surdu to make the kick off. Ioan Trandafir sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice moves Ioan Trandafir could shoot a difficult shot in the 61st minute, which Nicu Isvoreanu however easily saved by the left post. Ioan Trandafir fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicu Isvoreanu having to interfere. Sergiu Popilean struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Nicu Isvoreanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ghirolt. When Marius Surdu came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Riiosa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marius Surdu couldn't finish the play. Ghirolt's Sever Călinescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marius Surdu in the 72nd minute of play. If Valeriu Gherase had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sever Călinescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ilie Pop, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marius Surdu in the 84th minute of play forced Ghirolt's goalkeeper Sever Călinescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sever Călinescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marius Surdu, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. 95 minutes into the game, Ghirolt's Ioan Trandafir nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nicu Isvoreanu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2.
