52 minutes had been played when some careless play by Costa Rica's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Yaroslav Lytovchak was slow to take the kick. During this time Ukraine's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Costa Rica's goalie and right to Myroslav Maklakov. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Costa Rica's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Myroslav Maklakov scored 6-0 in the 69th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alvaro Varela, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Vitaliy Kostyuk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Svyatoslav Pavlenko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. Alvaro Varela was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Svyatoslav Pavlenko scored 12-0 in the 94th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alvaro Varela, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Ukraine fully deserved thier win.
