Luizão Dantas started the match with the kick off. In the 13thth minute of the game Leonardo Donato who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but AVAÍ F.C.'s Marcos Buffon was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alfredão França's late challenge caught a AVAÍ F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alfredão França helped the player get up and apologised. Alfredão França kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. In the 21st minute Walmyr Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pegoraro Da Messina saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pegoraro Da Messina showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Walmyr Salles in the 23rd minute of the match. In the 37th minute, Walmyr Salles reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Pegoraro Da Messina. The goal made the score 2-0. When the match had gone on for 42 minutes, Walmyr Salles took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Pegoraro Da Messina to make any attempt to save it. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

AVAÍ F.C.'s Marcos Buffon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save AVAÍ F.C. from getting a goal against them. In the 53rd match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Moisés Donato to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Palmeiras's zone, Walmyr Salles stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pegoraro Da Messina came out of the goal and Walmyr Salles tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 57th minute of the match, Wesley Fantini tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Marcos Buffon saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Marcos Buffon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wesley Fantini's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. AVAÍ F.C. made a substitution. Ronaldinho Brito replaced Mateus Alves. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Fábio de Souza got a free kick in the 70th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wesley Fantini in the 76th minute of play forced AVAÍ F.C.'s goalkeeper Marcos Buffon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. AVAÍ F.C. made a substitution. Rubens Cabral replaced Juan Arantes. The supporters of AVAÍ F.C. booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonardo Donato didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luizão Dantas in the 83rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pegoraro Da Messina prevented the ball from getting in the gole. AVAÍ F.C. were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Palmeiras's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Luiz Pombal took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Luiz Pombal got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Pegoraro Da Messina quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 87th minute, Bernt Jønsson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 90th minute, Palmeiras's Leonardo Donato dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-1. Pegoraro Da Messina showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walmyr Salles, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. AVAÍ F.C.'s Marcos Buffon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leonardo Donato in the 94th minute of play. Pegoraro Da Messina showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luizão Dantas in the 95th minute of the match.

Palmeiras's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
