Denílson Tepedino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Matthew Benjamin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. USA's Matthew Benjamin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save USA from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kerry Sellers in the 27th minute of play forced Brazil's goalkeeper Dida Martins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Denílson Tepedino notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of USA's Matthew Benjamin. Matthew Benjamin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 32 minutes into the match, Denílson Tepedino dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Matthew Benjamin, 2-0. When Maurinho Mendonça came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Brazil fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maurinho Mendonça couldn't finish the play. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Kerry Sellers made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Tony Pacheco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Martins saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Denílson Tepedino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Matthew Benjamin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Denílson Tepedino in the 61st minute of the match. Denílson Tepedino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matthew Benjamin having to interfere. Brazil's Saulão Chettle was substituted for Maurinho Mendonça. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kerry Sellers got free with Dida Martins in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Brazil were awarded a corner in the 76th minute after USA's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Celsinho Perez took the corner. Brazil's Celsinho Perez was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Matthew Benjamin in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Matthew Benjamin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Saulão Chettle went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. Through an outstanding action, after 88 minutes, Dida Martins successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Matthew Benjamin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Clayton Gol, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. 96 minutes had been played when some careless play by USA's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Celsinho Perez was slow to take the kick. During this time Brazil's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Celsinho Perez almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but USA's Matthew Benjamin did a great save. USA's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
