The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fausto Ferraz came out of the goal in the 8th minute to try and stop a shot by S.P.Q.R.'s Batur Turbay. But to his dismay, Batur Turbay quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 14thth minute of the game Kuddusî Yazargil who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kuddusî Yazargil in the 16th minute of play. After a rather tough play, S.P.Q.R.'s Giray Ekin got a free kick in the 17th minute. In the 20th play minute Leopoldo Sanches came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Özen Akburç. 1-1. Fausto Ferraz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Talat Yenay, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. In the 29th minute Carlos Alberto Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Özen Akburç saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Fausto Ferraz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kuddusî Yazargil in the 30th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Giray Ekin during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The goalkeeper, Özen Akburç, was totally fooled by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Leopoldo Sanches, who 33 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After having played for 36 minutes, Leopoldo Sanches managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leopoldo Sanches was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Batista in the 38th minute of play forced S.P.Q.R.'s goalkeeper Özen Akburç to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when S.P.Q.R. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Derman Ülker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fausto Ferraz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kuddusî Yazargil in the 42nd minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Leopoldo Sanches stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Batur Turbay sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Özen Akburç was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, S.P.Q.R.'s Talat Yenay got a free kick in the 79th minute. The supporters of S.E.R. Batur Turbay's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fausto Ferraz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 96th minute of play. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul were victorious despite being under pressure from S.P.Q.R. for much of the match.
