In the 4th minute, Mirko Kielstra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 9 played minutes Ágætis Byrjun got a freekick which was hit by Ted Dam. The crowd rose to their feet as Aníbal Paes kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Serge Buring. That made the score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. The supporters of Várzea F.C. booed when Ágætis Byrjun was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Zethof didn't get a good kick on the ball. Victor Zethof's late challenge caught a Várzea F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Victor Zethof helped the player get up and apologised. When Rubinho Queirós came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Várzea F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rubinho Queirós couldn't finish the play. In the 22nd match minute, Ágætis Byrjun was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Henny Stam to maneuver through the defense. Várzea F.C.'s Joaquim Marques got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Murilo Peixoto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hub van Loo in the 26th minute of play. Serge Buring didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Joaquim Marques went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Joaquim Marques hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. In the 45th minute, Aníbal Paes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Várzea F.C. booed when Ágætis Byrjun was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mirko Kielstra didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Joaquim Marques made the kick off in the second half. Mirko Kielstra sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 58 played minutes Ágætis Byrjun got a freekick which was hit by Mirko Kielstra. After a defensive mix-up in Ágætis Byrjun's zone, Joaquim Marques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Serge Buring came out of the goal and Joaquim Marques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 62nd minute Edgard Ooijer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murilo Peixoto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Várzea F.C.'s Murilo Peixoto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save Várzea F.C. from getting a goal against them. In the 66th minute Hub van Loo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murilo Peixoto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Murilo Peixoto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hub van Loo in the 66th minute of the match. Murilo Peixoto was out of position in the 68 minute of play, and Hub van Loo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Hub van Loo really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Várzea F.C. made a substitution. Rogério Loureiro replaced Miguel Marques. Marcus Zaagman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edgard Ooijer's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Murilo Peixoto firmly grabbed it by the left post. Várzea F.C.'s fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
