Luis Díaz started the match with the kick off. 4 minutes into the match, Senen Sevilla notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of America De Cali's Rexino Arevalo. Rexino Arevalo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Rexino Arevalo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luis Díaz in the 13th minute. Andriy Lunin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Maule Ociña went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-2 was the resulting score. Andriy Lunin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maule Ociña, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The supporters of America De Cali booed when MILLONARIOS FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mosen Gaztelumendi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Maule Ociña could shoot a difficult shot in the 60th minute, which Andriy Lunin however easily saved by the left post. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mosen Gaztelumendi took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rexino Arevalo. Rexino Arevalo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-4. When Maule Ociña fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored America De Cali's protests and gave Maule Ociña a yellow card for diving instead. Maule Ociña hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Luis Díaz's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rexino Arevalo was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. In the 84th minute Cisco Mazule shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rexino Arevalo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rexino Arevalo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cisco Mazule, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 88th minute, Maule Ociña made a precise shot to the right of Andriy Lunin. MILLONARIOS FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-5. America De Cali's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
