The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. José Carlos Alagoano scored 0-1 in the 3rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nelson Dante, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Agostinho Viana took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vágner Peixoto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vágner Peixoto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Agostinho Viana having to make a save. Agostinho Viana made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomé Oliveira in the 10th minute. In the 13th minute, Afonso Couto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nelson Dante was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Tomé Oliveira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Agostinho Viana having to interfere. Rubinho Bastos kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. José Carlos Alagoano struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Nelson Dante didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Poacos. Poacos's Agostinho Viana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vágner Peixoto in the 32nd minute of play. With a little luck, Poacos's Agostinho Viana got control of the ball when Tomé Oliveira tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vágner Peixoto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Agostinho Viana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. The Philipps FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Poacos were winning 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when José Carlos Alagoano stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Flávio Travassos got free with Nelson Dante in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 61st minute, Philipps FC's Rubinho Bastos seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rubinho Bastos the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Philipps FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rubinho Bastos had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 60th minute, one of Philipps FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Philipps FC. An unexpected shot in the 66th minute by Afonso Couto got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. José Carlos Alagoano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Nelson Dante tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 70 minutes, Afonso Couto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Poacos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonso Couto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tomé Oliveira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Dudu Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Afonso Couto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 83 minutes into the game, João da Cunha was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Philipps FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Poacos the free kick. In the 83rd minute, João da Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
