An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelsinho Vargas in the 3rd minute of play forced Tomasia's goalkeeper Sydney Esteves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Tomasia getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Hélio Velloso hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Tomasia defense, Nelsinho Vargas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sydney Esteves. The Tomasia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sydney Esteves should have stopped the shot. Hermínio de Sousa made in the 15th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Super Stars's Bruno Oliveira. Osmar Antunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sydney Esteves having to interfere. Nelsinho Vargas struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Sydney Esteves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Super Stars. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Nelsinho Vargas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Super Stars's supporters rose to their feet, but Nelsinho Vargas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sydney Esteves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fábio Toledo hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Ramiro Cabral made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Artur Quintal sent off a good shot on target. After 42 played minutes Tomasia got a freekick which was hit by Hélio Velloso. The audience was convinced that Dito Botelho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ramiro Cabral was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. Super Stars's Bruno Oliveira managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Hermínio de Sousa in the 46 minute of the game. After the first half Super Stars were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Sydney Esteves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nelsinho Vargas in the 69th minute of the match. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bruno Oliveira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sydney Esteves having to interfere. After having played for 87 minutes, Nelsinho Vargas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Super Stars's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nelsinho Vargas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hermínio de Sousa made in the 89th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Tostão Severo. Bruno Oliveira was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 90th minute. Super Stars's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Nelsinho Vargas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sydney Esteves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 93rd minute of play.
