The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in S.C. Corinthians Paulista's zone, Romário Lima stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ediberto Sampaio came out of the goal and Romário Lima tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 29 minutes into the match, S.C. Corinthians Paulista's goalkeeper Ediberto Sampaio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jardel Proença. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Jardel Proença managed to get in a good position for a shot. Votuverava's supporters rose to their feet, but Jardel Proença was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ediberto Sampaio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to S.C. Corinthians Paulista getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Wesley Costa hit a great ball. S.C. Corinthians Paulista's Ediberto Sampaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Romário Lima in the 34th minute of play. In the 35th minute, Romário Lima got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Romário Lima's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ediberto Sampaio was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Jardel Proença blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ediberto Sampaio having to make a save. Jano Alagoano kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Romário Lima stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Rui Abraão who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 56thth minute tested the skills of André Luiz Urbano when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Lúcio Monteiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Votuverava's André Luiz Urbano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lúcio Monteiro in the 59th minute of play. Rui Abraão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 68 minutes into the game, Lúcio Monteiro recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of André Luiz Urbano. Lúcio Monteiro showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. Jardel Proença sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ediberto Sampaio showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
