In the 5thth minute of the game Moisés Martins who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Leão da Serra FC's Valdir Damião was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some careless play in the Leão da Serra FC defense, Moisés Martins kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Valdir Damião. The Leão da Serra FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Valdir Damião should have stopped the shot. Gonçalo Neiva hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. In the 13th minute Serafim Marques shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dagoberto Penha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Percival Teixeira came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the EC Calango fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Percival Teixeira couldn't finish the play. If Naldo Trevisan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the game, Serginho Machado was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. EC Calango's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Leão da Serra FC the free kick. A collision led to EC Calango getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Serginho Machado hit a great ball. In the 22nd minute of the match Hernani Rocha sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dagoberto Penha skillfully saved the ball. Chico Godoi's late challenge caught a Leão da Serra FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Chico Godoi helped the player get up and apologised. After 30 played minutes EC Calango got a freekick which was hit by Chico Godoi. With his leg Valdir Damião managed to avoid a goal in the 32ndth minute, when EC Calango's Moisés Martins fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Naldo Trevisan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Dagoberto Penha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valdir Damião showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chico Godoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Moisés Martins in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valdir Damião prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Leão da Serra FC's zone, Moisés Martins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valdir Damião came out of the goal and Moisés Martins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 41st match minute, EC Calango was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vitinho Aparecido to maneuver through the defense. Chico Godoi had several of the Leão da Serra FC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 45 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 3-0 score and a disappointed Valdir Damião as he didn't even see the shot coming. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.
