The long shot by Diogo de Mendonça in the 23rd minute really tested Luiz Fábio Paes's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. If Narciso Toscano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Attilio Benarrivo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luiz Fábio Paes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Márcio Loureiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Pantanal's zone, Valdemar Valladares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luiz Fábio Paes came out of the goal and Valdemar Valladares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Valdemar Valladares in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luiz Fábio Paes saved Pantanal from getting behind. In the 44th minute, Márcio Loureiro fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Luiz Fábio Paes, passed just outside the right post. When Valdemar Valladares got free in front of the goal in the 44th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Luiz Fábio Paes was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Aracas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Diogo de Mendonça was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 66thth minute of the game Valdemar Valladares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Pantanal's Luiz Fábio Paes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Cássio Vidal hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. After having played for 78 minutes, Valdemar Valladares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Aracas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdemar Valladares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Pantanal booed when Aracas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Natanael Gaúcho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aracas's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
