The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute, Pedrinho Britto reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Olívio Vergílio. The goal made the score 1-0. Marcelo Schmidt came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Flamengo RJ's Luís Fernando Simões. But to his dismay, Luís Fernando Simões quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlinhos Lago in the 15th minute of play forced Flamengo RJ's goalkeeper Olívio Vergílio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot by Henrique Lucas from long distance, 18 minutes into the match, got Olívio Vergílio's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Olívio Vergílio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedrinho Britto in the 20th minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Flamengo RJ's Benedito Brasil nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcelo Schmidt made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Olívio Vergílio made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Eugênio Sá sent off a good shot on target. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pedrinho Britto made a kick off. Carlos Augusto Breckenfeld sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Carlos Alberto de Salles fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Iuna's protests and gave Carlos Alberto de Salles a yellow card for diving instead. 52 minutes into the game, one of Iuna:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Joel Sarmento walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. 65 minutes into the match, Iuna's goalkeeper Marcelo Schmidt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Carlos Augusto Breckenfeld. 67 minutes into the game, Flamengo RJ's Carlos Augusto Breckenfeld nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Válter Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Olívio Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Augusto Toledos short, quick shot in the 84thth minute got Marcelo Schmidt to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 89th minute Pedrinho Britto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olívio Vergílio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olívio Vergílio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedrinho Britto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Flamengo RJ defense, Eugênio Sá kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Olívio Vergílio. The Flamengo RJ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Olívio Vergílio should have stopped the shot. Benedito Brasil blasted a shot towards the goal in the 99th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcelo Schmidt having to make a save. In the 99th minute the ball was on its way in behind Iuna's goalkeeper Marcelo Schmidt, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the final whistle sounded Flamengo RJ left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Iuna.
