Sandrinho do Nascimento came out of the goal in the 6th minute to try and stop a shot by Grêmio's Sílvio Luís Reis. But to his dismay, Sílvio Luís Reis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Wellington Paraibano received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sandrinho do Nascimento came out and tried to block the shot, but Wellington Paraibano slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 9th minute. Ituano Futebol Clube's Sandrinho do Nascimento proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Ituano Futebol Clube from getting a goal against them. Rogério Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jardel Sanches having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rogério Lima in the 16th minute of play forced Grêmio's goalkeeper Jardel Sanches to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sandrinho do Nascimento was a little too slow when Jorge Recife got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 26th minute. The score was now 4-0. Jorge Recife received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sandrinho do Nascimento came out and tried to block the shot, but Jorge Recife slotted it home off the left post making it 5-0 in the 28th minute. If Wellington Paraibano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Vânderson Mello managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio's supporters rose to their feet, but Vânderson Mello was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sandrinho do Nascimento breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Ituano Futebol Clube's Sandrinho do Nascimento got control of the ball when Jorge Recife tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wellington Paraibano in the 47th minute of play forced Ituano Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Sandrinho do Nascimento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 5-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cristóvão Meira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Jorge Recife left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-0. In the 56th match minute, Grêmio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wellington Paraibano to maneuver through the defense. 61 minutes into the match, Jorge Recife notched a goal, 7-0, to the right of Ituano Futebol Clube's Sandrinho do Nascimento. Sandrinho do Nascimento was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Grêmio's Wellington Paraibano got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sílvio Luís Reis scored 8-0 in the 66th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sandrinho do Nascimento, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Ituano Futebol Clube's Fernandinho Prado got a free kick in the 69th minute. In the 78th minute, Ituano Futebol Clube's Jardel Mendonça dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 8-1. 82 minutes into the game, Grêmio's Wellington Paraibano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sandrinho do Nascimento made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 9-1. Sandrinho do Nascimento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sílvio Luís Reis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 95th minute, Germano Bezerra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 96 minutes into the match, Grêmio's Mauro Alves broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Grêmio fully deserved thier win.
