But to his dismay, Jorge Recife quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Jardel Sanches took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benê Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jorge Recife sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sílvio Luís Reis succeeded in the game's 17th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 3-0. If Vânderson Mello had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute Benê Damião shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jardel Sanches saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Giuseppe Silveira was a little too slow when Wellington Paraibano got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 32nd minute. The score was now 5-0. Jardel Sanches made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Célio de Queirós in the 38th minute of play. Atlético Porto's Giuseppe Silveira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save Atlético Porto from getting a goal against them. After having played for 41 minutes, Jorge Recife managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jorge Recife was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 46th play minutes Wellington Paraibano shot 6-0, a short shot which went by Giuseppe Silveira and just under the crossbar into goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 6-0 at half-time.

A collision led to Grêmio getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Erasmo Dionísio hit a great ball. After having played for 57 minutes, Sílvio Luís Reis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sílvio Luís Reis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Wellington Paraibano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Giuseppe Silveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 60 minutes into the match, Atlético Porto's goal looked a bit too open when Wellington Paraibano came free, but Giuseppe Silveira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Erasmo Dionísio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Benê Damião's late challenge caught a Grêmio's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Benê Damião helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Grêmio booed when Atlético Porto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benê Damião didn't get a good kick on the ball. Guga Loyola kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Enio Meireles kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. Sílvio Luís Reis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Charles Arósio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giuseppe Silveira having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Grêmio's goalkeeper Jardel Sanches had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benê Damião. In the 83rd minute, Jorge Recife left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-0. When the match clock showed 88 minutes, the score became 8-0 when Wellington Paraibano sped through Atlético Porto's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Giuseppe Silveira. Giuseppe Silveira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wellington Paraibano, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Wellington Paraibano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio's supporters rose to their feet, but Wellington Paraibano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Giuseppe Silveira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 94 minutes into the match, Jorge Recife notched a goal, 9-0, to the right of Atlético Porto's Giuseppe Silveira. Giuseppe Silveira was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Grêmio's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
