Leonardo Da Vinci dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Thanks to some nice moves Grgur Ćulibrk could shoot a difficult shot in the 54th minute, which Leonardo Da Vinci however easily saved by the left post. David Schiavone ran back to his position shaking his head. Serbia made a substitution. Puniša Govedarica replaced Saša Mirosavljević. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ugochukwutubelum Antetokounmpo in the 95th minute of play forced Malta's goalkeeper Leonardo Da Vinci to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the final whistle sounded Serbia left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Malta.
