The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Adrianinho Corrêa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emanuel Tinoco in the 93rd minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Richard Murillo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match was over Brazil could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Mexico throughout the match.
