The U21 Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Efraim Leizaur should have stopped the shot. In the 16th minute, U21 Peru's Erez Roşca seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Erez Roşca the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of U21 Peru protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Erez Roşca had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Erez Roşca kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. In the 17th minute, Xabat Clarabout got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 25 played minutes U21 Peru got a freekick which was hit by Lalla Tufiño. Paul Ramon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reinaldo Dias in the 35th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Iván Sotomayor's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Efraim Leizaur was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reinaldo Dias in the 38th minute of play forced U21 Peru's goalkeeper Paul Ramon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Román Olmedo's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Paul Ramon firmly grabbed it by the left post. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When Maties Ozana came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the U21 Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maties Ozana couldn't finish the play.
