Alexander Rosales didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Mexico's Vergaray Azteca shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-0 in the ordered_time% minute. In the 11th minute Otto Peralta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Venancio Dolfo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Venancio Dolfo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrei Sanabria in the 12th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Vergaray Azteca came free, but Alexander Rosales reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vergaray Azteca in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alexander Rosales saved Costa Rica from getting behind. 28 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Saenz came free, but Venancio Dolfo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joaquin Rohrmoser kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vergaray Azteca stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquin Rohrmoser to maneuver through the defense. Mexico's Ildefonso Ursino was substituted for Vergaray Azteca. In the 58th minute, Ildefonso Ursino left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. In the 60th minute Ildefonso Ursino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alexander Rosales saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicolas Contreras replaced Nino Rivas. Venancio Dolfo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manuel Saenz in the 71st minute of the match. Alexander Rosales showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ildefonso Ursino, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Nicanor Richie kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. Andrei Sanabria fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 76th minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball bounced in the crossbar and then went out. It was a very nice shot. Alexander Rosales made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ildefonso Ursino in the 81st minute of play. Venancio Dolfo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Otoniel Millot in the 85th minute. After 85 played minutes Otoniel Millot rounded Mexico's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-1. 90 minutes into the match, Manuel Saenz had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Venancio Dolfo. Mexico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Manuel Saenz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Alexander Rosales stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ildefonso Ursino's shot from short distance in the 94th minute. In the 96th minute, Otoniel Millot left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Costa Rica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Mexico's Cecilio Domínguez was substituted for Teofilo Mikeldi. The Costa Rica supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Costa Rica would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
