U21 Spain's Aznaro Marquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basarab Voinescu in the 10th minute of play. The U21 Romania fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when U21 Romania's Nicu Alexandrescu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 17th minute of the game Robert Beniuc made a throw-in which Cosmin Marian played forward. Miloslav Klose's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gabriele Love read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, U21 Spain's goal looked a bit too open when Fabian Bântu came free, but Aznaro Marquez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Romania were awarded a corner in the 37th minute after U21 Spain's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Dorin Zbora took the corner. Valeri Karpin hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Aznaro Marquez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicu Alexandrescu in the 39th minute of play. 40 minutes into the game, Nicu Alexandrescu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Aznaro Marquez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nicu Alexandrescu to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Romania's goalkeeper Gabriele Love, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 56 minutes into the match, U21 Spain's goalkeeper Aznaro Marquez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fabian Bântu. U21 Spain made a substitution. D.J. Mus replaced Miloslav Klose. U21 Romania's Avo Kaat was substituted for Cosmin Marian. U21 Spain's Ginés Colsa was substituted for Rolando Solo. U21 Spain's Davide Beckham was substituted for Valeri Karpin. Rolando Solo hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Gabriele Love made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from D.J. Mus in the 68th minute of play. Aznaro Marquez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cazimir Bognar in the 69th minute of play. After 73 minutes of play, U21 Romania's Avo Kaat made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Aznaro Marquez was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Romania's Octavian Mascovescu slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Aznaro Marquez. That made the score 0-4 after 76 minutes of play. In the 79th minute Cazimir Bognar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aznaro Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 80 minutes into the game, D.J. Mus cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Gabriele Love was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 Spain's Aznaro Marquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorel Sădeanu in the 83rd minute of play. In the 85th match minute, U21 Spain was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by D.J. Mus to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Octavian Mascovescu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Aznaro Marquez. That made the score 1-5 in the 89 minute of play. In the 92nd minute Octavian Mascovescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aznaro Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gabriele Love showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from D.J. Mus in the 93rd minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. U21 Romania had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
